Default Open bafflers be advised...

I recently had some speakers here for review. The supplier came to collect them yesterday and I had quickly removed them from my listening room and re-instated my open baffles.

The supplier wanted to hear the open baffles so I dropped a CD in the CDP and pressed play but it didn't sound good. I was mystified! There seemed to be a 'hole' in the bass. How embarrassing!

Well after a visit to see a friend, I was cycling back and trying to think what could have changed. But the rest of the system had not been touched and it occurred to me the only thing that could have changed was the position of the speakers.

So when I got home, I moved them about four inches (10 cm) nearer to the side walls. And voila everything was fine again.

Obviously having one side of the baffles closer to the side wall helps limit the amount of cancellation. Anyway, I'm a happy bunny again. Happy that is but not satisfied; so it is on with the dipole woofers and the search for a better helper tweeter!
