I am trying to design a outdoor speaker system that can create a large sweetspot to create a "soundscape". All of the resaearch I have found is on speaker systems for the indoors and uses walls to create the image. I have experimented with a cheap pair of bookshelf speakers and had suprising results, but I am trying to find the ultimate solution. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thought about omni-directional designs? - they're the ones with horizontal driver location, typically opposed with a dispersal "cone" or "horn"

Bessel arrays are ideal for the job - you can design them with whatever degree of 'focus' is desired (and use small, cheap drivers into the bargain)!
