Default Ht8

I had the fortune to attend CES this year for work. I slipped away to the Hi-Performance Audio show at Alexis Park by shuttle bus where all the esoteric stuff was shown. Next door was the T.H.E. (The High End ) Show I slipped into it as well. WOW! What a lot of snakeoil this High End business is. Absolutely deluded people for the most part. First of all I would like to say that the HT8 and the Ribbon tweeter/WR125 speaker that RAW acoustics makes were the BEST value in the whole show. To my ears HT8 was only beat by a $16000 Usher Berylium speaker set that stood 5 feet tall and abot 2.5 feet deep. Watt Puppies suck. Manley amplification is dark and tubby and Pro-sound-like. Looks cool though. The McIntosh room was impressive but only the most silly place I have ever stepped foot into. It was like being in a church. The level of awe was amusing beyond belief. I guess if you have everything and need to impress the guys at the Country Club and the Porsche is still pretty new..... I like ProAc (only the expensive ones). Lots of other speakers had strange sound that only a mother could love. Very Subjective business I know.... The Adire/RAW/CSS room had single full-range FR125 boxes that killed the Fostex next door. Fostex look cool and would make a good mid-range. My FR125s still don't sound that good but Al has the port on the front. I will try that. Everything was SO BIG for the most part. Not for my home. But neither are the Anthony Gallo or the little Totems...awful.....but now I know. Neat experience though.

Default HT1 were awesome too!!

Yes the HT1 is a high-end ersion of the KIT141 offered by CSS. Kit 141 is probably the best deal in audio on earth. PERIOD. Unbelievable. The HT1 was at the CES show as well. Really nice.

The HT1 at about twice the price of Kit 141 is all that and more. It uses a 6-th order x-over and a ribbon tweeter (these ribbon things do sound better) and is much more refined sounding. WOW. These Pacific Northwest guys have really contributed so much quality to the world's DIY offerings. First the wonderful little TangBAnd W3-871 nad now these lovelies. And Al Wooly's woodworking is incredible. Buy his boxes and just assemble if that is an option. The guy is an artist.

I have ordered and recieved the FR125 that came with a CNC'd baffle and magnetic grill. Al was great to deal with and everything was perfect.

Al was also kind enough to send me 1 pair of RA8's (holy crap!!!) 1 pair of HT3(mmm beautiful) and 1 pair of HT 2's (very impressed).

I will be publishing reviews for all three pairs over the next few months at www.hometheaterhifi.com.

Al is a great guy to deal with, very knowlegable and has designed some very nice speakers for the price.

Hi GringoAudio,

You don't happen to have a link to to the CSS kit141 do you? I crawled around the CSS website, and all I found was Kit41.

I also did a site search and tried a well known search engine without success.

Any and all assistance is appreciated.

TIA,

Todd

At CES we had our new HT8 in a figured Lacewood along with the Koa RAW FR.

The HT1,HT2 or HT3 never made the trip as we wanted to release the HT8 on its own and the RAW FR is in a different scale.
By having 2 completly different speakers we could please a lot of people. With out over loading the room with modles as well as swapping them in and out for people to listen to.

I would like to thank all those who stopped by and had time to visit with.

For those looking at the kit 41 there is no kit 141

Yes the Kit 41 is a good value speaker now and will be for some time.
We lean to the ribbons , because the mids are so clean in the mid range why put a cheap tweeter on top.
Do not get me wrong they do sound good for the money but we just went to the ribbon in our HT 1 for sound quality.
Also we do have the RAW-1 which uses the same tweeter as the Kit 41.
Having done our RAW-1 for RMAF 2 years ago using that tweeter, as well we use a sceond order network.Others found a need for a kit with less parts!

Over pick the kit which suits your needs as well as price range.

All the best.

Default RAW X-overs more sophisticated

I don't know how much more the RAW-1 is over the CSS Kit 41 but a lot of thought and expensive parts go into a good X-over and from what I heard at CES RAW (Al Wooley) knows how to get a good X-over. Kit 41 is from CSS (Bob Reimer) which is a different company. But the P.N.W. all know each other and shared the listening room at CES.
I bought Kit 41 for the church organist and built him a pair of really nice sounding speakers. He just paid for the parts and I built the boxes as a gift. He is a happy man. I made the boxes about 10 litres and he is playing with air resistors in the ports. This is a good volume for either sealed or ported. Kit 41 runs the WR125 full-range and has a 2nd order x-over for the tweeter I think.
I would like to hear RAW-1.
