Default my little speakers

Ive just put together some small speakers using a 5" ex-wharfedale
diamond 6 bass /mid :- qms=2.7, qes=0.57, qts=0.47,mms=7.48, cms
=1.05, vas=9.05, fs= 56.7 hz. At the moment there in tiny I.B. 13" x 7"
x 6" boxes and sound incredible for their size .My question is would it
be worth porting such a tiny box?

Default my little speakers

Thanks for the info,

If I interpret the graphs correctly does this mean that the -3db
point for the 3 situations is as follows :-

I.B. - 90 hz
ported box (this size tuned to 40) - 70 hz
ported box (twice the volume ) - 60 hz

I hope Ive understood this and if so how would I determine the port dimensions to achieve the 70hz , -3db case.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi,

probably best to tell me the actual internal volume of your speakers.

Giving you the port dimensions for a 7 litre cabinet is not accurate.

Hi ,

I guess 5.8 litres allowing for the volumes of the drive units.

Bill.

Hi,

the point of reflexing is getting very marginal with 5.8 litres.

However for 40Hz a 25mm inside diameter vent is 14cm long, 30mm - 20cm.

25mm diameter is pretty small for that size of drive unit, but tuned that low it might be fine.

However, accomodating a vent of that length in such a small box will prove interesting Probably have to find some 90 degree elbows, or careful splicing of the pipe as I think 25mm joints are rare?

Hi,

Personally I wouldn't reflex them, if anything I'd add a mini sub (or two).

90 degree bends in ports are a very bad idea.

A far better solution is a flexible tube with a gradual curve,
e.g. the output hose from a washing machine / dishwasher.

Wouldn't the serrations on the washer hose cause turbulence?
