zobel network and series notch filter

Many articles I have read and illustrations I have seen show a zobel network and series notch filter in place on either woofer or tweeter to get the compensation they need. I am curious as to what would be the result if the zobel network was put in without the notch filter? Would this make no difference or possible hinder performance? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the notch filter, but in experiments with the Imp MLS tester and a second order crossover, I found that a generic rule-of-thumb Zobel made a big improvement in the accuracy of the crossover. The rule of thumb: resistor ohms equals voice coil impedance; capacitor microfarads equal to woofer diameter in inches.
