Default using LSP Cad to build a series XO

this might be a bit crazy.....

i downloaded lsp Cad lite.

it is primarily designed to simulate parallel XOs.

However if one eliminate the series inductor of the woofer circuit and series cap of the tweeter ciruit can it be used to simulate a series XO? even if it an approximate simulation?

eg:

I am thinking of using a 2nd order series XO based on a ciruit posted at

from what i understand L1 and C2 determine tweeter XO and C1 and L2 determine the woofer XO

To use these value in Lsp Cad one has to eliminate the 1st component (series inductor/cap) as in the series XO the 1st component is in parallel with the driver. It this theroy valid?

if andy or any series XO expert is listening i'd like to run a XO by them.

The drivers are a Vifa TC series 6" and 1". TC18WG49 and TC26TG.

refering to the 2nd order circuit posted by Andy G.

L1 = 0.5mH (0.1 ohms DCR)
C1 = 4.7 uf
L2 = 1mh (0.2 ohms DCR)
C2 = 3.3uf or 4.7uf or 6.8uf

L pad for tweeter:
Rs = 4 ohms
Rp = 10 ohms

Imp. Comp for woofer
Cx = 20uf
Rx = 5.6 ohms or 6.8 ohms (actually I need a value between these).

Any ideas?

forgot to mention...

L2 is only 1mh as I dont need too much difraction step comp. I might even try 0.7mH.

1. the cabinet has a large dia curve that continues on to the sides to eliminate same of the difraction step
2. there is a 8" active woofer for "bass augmentation". the woofer is fed the Subwoofer singal of the AVR (I assume this is a LP at 80-100Hz)

I think that to model series XOs you need to get one of the paid versions of LSPcad.

And as far as diffraction step goes, the smooth transition will reduce the ripple as the step occurs but will not decrease the step.

i was thinking frugal phile.

true i can reduce the ripple only. but the addition of the 8" woofer at 100Hz or so will reduce the need for a big step. maybe I need only 3db or so.

Navin,

If you haven't already, try the tools from the FRD Group. SpeakerWorkshop as well as Crossover Simulator can handle more complex circuits.

no luck.

FRD group and Crossover simulator require FRD files.
have not figured out how to get speaker workshop to run. the menu is not very intuitive.

passive crosssover design calculator by Jeff Bagby does not handle 2nd order series. only 1st order.


any other ideas

Do you already have the measurement files of drivers? FRD files are just the text files, like Clio's txt files, only different heading, which can be edited by any text redactor. If you have the measurement files, may be I can help you with modeling. If you donít have measurement files then there is possibility to construct them using SplTrack.

The original intent was to go higher. When i was doing the diagrams for Jeff, i did all the way up to 4th order series.
