Default i'm unsure and confused (n00b)

Hello all.

I'm going to be building a gainclone amp soon so i need some speakers to go with it (that are better than my $50 technics cash converter speakers).

I was thinking about getting the TL6 kit from LSK audio in perth, australia. Unfortunately their site is not up at the moment, so the specs are not available. I do know however they use two Vifa P17s with a Vifa D27 in between. They are TL design about 1200mm high. The kit, including panels costs about 875US. My budget is 900 max.

Im planning to go down and have a listen to them in a few days. My problem is though, i cant help but wonder if my dollars could go further if i built my own. (this kit includes the boxes unassembled which i dont really want, i can make these easy) Basically i dont know where to start....the woodworks not a problem and i have basic soldering skills, maths skills. I'm not really keen to design from scratch. I like the TL design. I like really tight, accurate base, dont like a big hump and the bottom of the curve. I dont really want to start making small things, practice cheap etc. (since i was going to get a kit)

So how bout some pointing in some direction?
Sorry about the complete n00bness of the question.... im keen to start something though.
-matt
