ok polkymon,
and what type of filter have you planned? L4? C8?
I think a 5-1/4" was a better choice with the possybility to experimentate all type of filters, expecially true first order.
Just my opinion.
cheers,
inertial

thanks you polkymon, now i get the construction not tomorrow that i'm getting into something THAT complicated, you must have used lots of filler, don't you ?

I'm also pleased that you liked the ushers because i ordered two 7" kevlar from germany, if the tweeter is that good i might order one too.

inertial, many people around here believe that 6 1/2 " or 7" are the best size for the woofer of a two way speaker, as a compromise between directivity and bass extension. I personnaly prefer my 2 ways a little larger , like 8"

Nemophile,
I know it, but I totally disagree.
Sonus Faber factory is near to my home. I know his products very well.
You can believe or not, but the best compromise of ALL his products is the Minima, then the Guarnieri, then the others.
Bass? If the voices are bad what can you do with bass? ( perdone my english,)
Sure little wideranges-fans are with me......
Obiuovsly it is my opinion but I like talking clear.
cheers,

dear nemophile,
Maybe you do not have a your personal opinion? Do you need of some
externals respected authority?
Do not listen to my stupids words, believe only to your ears!

Yes, I am crazy, I have reason to not agree with 100% of our masters
SL or GL. ( 90% ok of course, it is science). The 10% is the listen experience.
I respect these mans anyway and his great know-how.
Am I clear?
cheers,
inertial

dear inertial

i do in fact have personal opinions, but i am pretty much of a newbie in audio if you compare me to peoples who have 20-30 years of experience, as SL, GL, and others on theses forums do, so , when i have an opinion, i am very pleased to know that some "authorities" are sharing my view. Most of the time i heard in fact what you are telling, that it is better to have small midbass/midrange driver for directivity purposes at the transition between midbass and tweeter

I also have to point out the fact that the two design i linked to are not "classic" box like radiation, like sonus faber speakers are, one is using waveguide to control directivity pattern, the other is using dipole radiation to the same purpose, so the rules are clearly not the same.

i personally like the dynamics of a bigger midrange associated to a waveguide, as it is done in many studio monitors. I also heard a speaker with this midrange driver : DAVIS 20GKLV8TDF wich is very popular here in france
with a waveguide loaded ring radiator from vifa and in my personnal opinion it is better than any mini monitor i have ever heard.

i also wanted to tell you that your english is very understandable for a french guy like me

Dear Nemophyle,
Your personal opinion is legitim,of course.
Unfortunately I believe Audio Artistry is not distribuited in Italy and I have no idea if some italian guys have built a perfect kit of the Orion.
Again I want to precisate I am not the best fan of S.F. speakers,
but the littles old models was respectable in my opinion.
Thanks for your reply and for positive comments of my english ( I am not of the same opinion, my english suck!)
I suspect we are "out of thread".
Cheers,
Inertial

SF style stand. Composite fence post, pvc pipe, plywood, threaded rod and MDF.

Not exactly authentic but it works.
