port direction in a home application

Ok I had some stuff laying around so im going to build a set of home speakers.

Each tower will house:
(2) Dayton DA175-8 Aluminum 7" Midwoofers
(1) Dayton DC28F-8 Silk Dome Tweeters
One 3" Aeroport tuned to 29hz
Xover will be a basic two way(12db slope) at 2k

Enclosure size will be 2.4 cu after displacement and port.

Now, on with the question at hand.

I would prefer to have the port on the rear of the enclosure. Is there a disadvantage of having it in that location? versus having it on the front baffle?

I just dont like the look of a port on the front of the enclosure.

Hi Inanez,

Mid-frequencies leaving the port are out of phase vs those from the driver, creating a muddled midrange. Rearported enclosures are able to reduce this effect because the port is out of listening axis; Differences in time delay in the bass range between port and driver have no consequence because of the lenght of the waves.
