Two way system, Mid-woofer height?

Hello,

I build a 2 way system speakers, but I don't know where place the midwoofer, above the tweeter (ear) or under the tweeter.

The placing midwoofer so high (say around 1 meter from the floor) can "confuse" the image and decrease the impact/slam bass response?

Have any advantage/superiority to place the midwoofer high from the tweeter or lower midwoofer height is the best?

By the way, the system cross around 2K to 2.5 KHz.

Thank you very much.

Hi,

placement depends somewhat on the vertical polar reponse in
the crossover region. Due to phase differences usually one of
the above or below axis responses is more consistent than the
other and the drivers are arranged to exploit this on the normal
listening axis.

However it must be said overall box height is a major (domestic)
issue consequently the tweeter is usually on top near the top.

In extreme cases of inverted drivers the box is placed below the
listening axis to generate enough phase path difference between
the drivers to allow crossover integration.
This does give a domestic friendly height for standmounters.

It also should be said exploiting the off axis response in the c/o
region usually means losing some of the tweeters top octave
response as most tweeters are fairly directional at the top end.

:) /sreten.
