Hi to eveyone on the forum.
I have been looking at building a small efficient 4 way PA. After a good year of research it looks like I will use hornloaded cabs and make the prototype modular. each section has its own eclosure sub/lowmid/mid/highs. (This should make mods easy) my idea is a dual Emminence beta 8" hornloaded mid with a 1"comp driver for the highs. 12"? horn loaded low mid for the 150-400hz range A pair of hornloaded 15" each side for the subs I know that 1500w of power might be a little conservative but hopefully it will do the job. My only concern at the moment is getting a small but efficient enough low mid enclosure. |

Hi,
JMO but small and horn loaded 15" bass units don't go together. I'd go for reflexed boxes for bass, with extra juice to compensate for the lack of relative efficiency compared to the rest of the range. |

Thankyou for repling Streten,
I suppose the whole idea of this excersise is to get throw and some form of directivity in the low mids. Although, we all know that bass becomes more and more omni directional as it gets down into the sub band. Iv'e been toying with the idea of using a pair of twelves corner loaded for the low mids similar to EAW or Meyer. If anyone has tried this I would like to hear their expeariences. |

Hi Tim,
Just considering your low mids, if you need the efficiency, then you're stuck with horn loading. If you relax that criterion, then you have the option of manipulating the phase behaviour of the driver(s) to achieve directivity control. Multiple drivers can be arranged to give some arbitary directional response over a small bandwidth. A single driver could also be used as a dipole to give a DI of 5dB. Without having any direct experience of the corner loading technique, I can only imagine it providing some limited horn loading, or being a more compact arrangement of drivers simply to save space as is common with subs. Cheers, Ralph. |

What I mean by small is something that will fit in a small van/panel van. To give you an idea im thinking about a PA for small venues and small out doors gigs.
The reason I want to go with a multi way system is so that I can controll all of EQ electronically enabling me to tune the PA for any venue with a system controller and laptop When I talk about subs i'd like to get down to around 35-40hz. Basically below or at the bottom note on a bass guitar. Thankyou for your replies. |
