Hey yeah i have just read Speaker Building 201. for i wish to design my own speakers dur.....
anyway i have a few questions about it and probable more to follow. 1.power.... the book doesnt talk much about the power of a speaker what effect does this have?( more expensive speaker just seem 2 have more power and slighlty lower Q) 2.volume of box... i have a number of Equations 2 find the volume for a speaker or pair of speakers, but what happens when u mix speakers. do u simple find the volume for each individual speaker and sum the volumes? 3.Xover freq....to find the crossover freq do u just stay as many octaves away from the fs of the higher speaker and no 2 close to the resonant freq of the lower? 4.Xover gambe...how much is a gamble is it with crossovers. from my understanding. depending on which order of cross over u build depends on how sharp u cut off that speaker plus a few other little things. 5.stuffing? say u use the egg crate stuff what effect does that have on enclosure apart from damping resonant sounds/does it make enclosure smaller. stuffing isnt used in vented boxes right? 6. software and testing. i dont have any softwear or testing equipment apart from a multimeter and free prog that are available off the net (box volume and Xover designer which i think is pretty much the same as the formula i have from book). how much of a diff does it make to use technology. well any help would be much appreshiated and plz put a # in reply as 2 which Q u are respondin to. many thanks jens |

jens,
When you posted these questions, you must have clicked the "Have you Searched?" box - but I don't believe you did. All this information is available (generally many times over) on this forum - although you will probably find disagreement on most of the answers. For question #2, which isn't particularly obvious, each speaker requires it's own enclosure. A tweeter (and some midranges) come with their own enclosure - and if you've got more than one speaker of the same type, you can do as you suggest and double the volume for them and have the 2 speakers in the same box.
