I remember seeing a similar driver in a 6moons.com feature/review. It was in a standmount design featuring the Scan ring radiator.

This is a custom oem woofer and you will prbably not be able to get it. LIke ShinOBIWAN says, the manufactuer has a review on the 6moons.com website. If memory serves, this particular woofer was found in a 2-way monitor paired with a revelator ring-radiator. I believe that the retail price was somewhere in the neighborhood of $22K per pair.

Apparently there is only one firm in the world that can do vapor-deposited titanium on such a large surface, and that firm is not capable of extremely large quantities.

Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing any titanium woofers at all other than this one, vapor-deposited or otherwise. Seems like it would be just as good as, if not better than, aluminum, magnesium, etc.

Does anyone know why? Are there others out there that you know of?

Visaton does a 4" titanium mid/bass called the ti100. I built the Topas kit which featured it. Its a decent driver by all standards but pricey in comparison to others in its class.

I'm almost certain I've seen titanium woofers too. Thought I can't actually provide any examples.

It may just be a more difficult metal to work with, hence more expensive, although lots of things are made with it.

It would seem that any metal that can be used for a tweeter could be used for other drivers too, but maybe not. If the stiffness to weight ratio is kept, i.e., a larger surface area will require a thicker depth to maintain the same ratio as smaller, you should get the same performance, all other things like motor structure being equal.

To flip the argument, SEAS doesn't make any magnesium tweeters, although I think some of them are aluminum/mag alloys, as is found in some Hi-Vi drivers.

It makes me wonder if the super pricey vapor deposition process is the only one which that company could come up with to make a good titanium woofer; that would explain why other manufacturers, especially ones that market to DIY, aren't making any!

Well there goes my theory! Thanks for those links. The next question is, has anybody hear built any projects with any of these? How do they measure? How do they sound?
