Does anyone know what the coating is that was used on UK made Bextrene speaker cones in the 1970s and 80s? It's not the C37 type lacquer that is sometimes used on units these days, but appears to be more like PVA.
The reason for asking is that I've just mended an old Richard Allan HP8B bass unit that had the usual 'blisters' on the inside of the Kapton voice-coil former, which was causing the former to contact the magnet. I took off the dust cap and carefully sanded away the blisters on the coil former (a fiddly job but it went OK) and the speaker is now working again. The problem is that when I took off the dust cap it pulled away a section of the old cone coating and I'd like to re-coat the area. |
