Default OB Satellites

I looked at the Linkwitz site and truthfully got lost in the technical explainations of OBs.

I have quite a few decent quality 4, 5.25, & 6.5 woofers and mid-woofers laying around and wondered about OB Satellites. Does this seem like a good idea or are closed cabinets superior where you're trying to keep cabinet size as small as possible?

Could someone give me some general guidelines about the size of the OBs in relation to where I should cross them over to a sub or dual subs.

A crossover of around 300HZ using dual subs seems like a good idea.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks

If we donīt talk about real bass the OB should not be wider than 2.2x driver cone diameter. As a rough guideline the f3 wavelenght of a baffle will be comfortably longer than the baffle circumference.
So for f3=300 Hz the baffle circumference needs to be no more than 1 m. This equals to a baffle of 12x38cm for instance.

Attention: This relates to a driver with Qts=0.7. Drivers with higher Qts will need less baffle, drivers with a lower Qts will need more baffle size. Drivers with Qts<0.4 donīt lend themselves to OBs without heavy equalisation.

Please remember that the OB should be at least 3feet from the frontwall to prevent early reflections smearing the soundstage.

Thank you Rudolf. A simple and easy to understand answer for my simple and (as per my wife's opinion) not so simple to understand mind.
