Default Surround speaker advice/links

I'm starting a little di/bipole surround speaker project. I haven't been able to find very much information on how to design them.

If you have and advice, or can point out any links or other references it would be appreciated.

Here is the progress so far: http://htguide.com/forum/showthread.php4?t=16404

Thanks.

Graham,
With your room layout, I think you're absolutely right about wanting a more diffuse sound. Maybe two pairs of the GR speakers spread across the back wall...then experiment with phasing within pairs???

Hi Paul,

That's a really good idea, hadn't thought of that. But I think I'll just build a pair for now. I could experiment with that by making that pair the middle surround channel in a 6.1 system, and putting one of them out of phase.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Default Some info

I did some analysis of how surround speakers work when operating as dipoles and bipoles, several different configurations, mounted on the wall.

Ended up building this. I call it the dB1661 and it's set up to operate the tweeter as a dipole or bipole, switchable.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the links. Someone already pointed those out to me, very interesting results.

I decided to go with a similar design to the GR research surround speakers. I think they will fit my needs the best.

Thanks
Graham
