Default Going for my first DIY speakers

Hi, I'm going to build some speakers very soon.

Problem: I don't really know what XOver I'm going to build/ how.

Here are all the driver specs I have:

Woofer:
Rubber suspension, 6.5”, 50W, 8 Ohm, 50-8K Hz, 1" coil, magnet: 20OZ, SPL : 90 dB

JVC Ribbon tweeter:
100w, 8ohms, 6k-44kHz.

Is it easy to make the speakers 8 ohm with this? It's OK if it's not but preferable.

Is the woofer 8 ohm? If so the loudspeaker will be.

It seems that there isn't much overlap between the woofer and tweeter but you might get away with it. Co you have the T/S parameters? It's tough to give you more info until we have those.

No, I can google and yahoo both model numbers and I get the PDF of my local shop only.

Both drivers are 8 ohm.

Oh, and I don't just have problems with the XOver, the speaker enclosure also.

Do you know with about how many litres I should start? Or it's impossible? There are surely other speakers with similar specs?

What does the PDF say? T/S parameters are needed, or at least suggestions for enclosure size.

You really should have more specs to design anything.

I told all the specs from the PDF in my first post.

Is there a way to measure them? Which ones are the most useful?

Do you have the manufacturer, and model numbers? They might help.

The Vance Dickason cookbook is helpful, and shows you how to measure the woofer to find the Thiel-Small parameters, although you may need to find someone with some test equipment items.

With the TS parameters, the enclosure is easy to work out; the main challenge might be that the 6.5" driver may have trouble at the high end, depending on how optimistic the 8kHz spec is.

I have the manufacturer for the ribbon which is JVC but not the other.

I already tried to get more info by contacting the shop but they don't have any.

Here is the catalog part with the woofer.

Hi DragonMaster,
You may run into some problems here. The Loudspeaker Cookbook by Weems is an excellent text as well. I strongly suggest you read a little first. I get the feeling too, that these "unknown" drivers may not sound so good.

My humble suggestion ... support the fine folk at Solen. Full specs, suggested boxes, good crossover components. If it doesn't sound good, it would be your fault. I know you don't have a lot of $ to play with, but every cent spent in the right direction will save you money.

Rule of thumb, build the largest box the manufacturer recommends. This will be the optimum size usually. Solen even has (or had) kits to build. You might try using Vifa drivers. They are a good inexpensive line and they sound good. They are the basis for Royd speakers.

Oh, Solen, I forgot about these! They are only 6kMs away from where I live.

They are even closer to me than the other shop. Thanks for recalling me about them! Yay, speakers @ 10 mins. from home!
