Question dual voice coil impedance switching

Say that you had a dual voice coil driver and you wanted to provide an impedance switch to get 4 or 8 ohms.

What are the effects of:
Shorting out one coil?
Opening up one coil?

Seems that shorting out would cause some kind of magnetic feedback to the other coil.

what about mechanical or electrical specs?

oops - one diagram missing - dual 4 ohm with dual pole switch to leave an open coil. You get the idea.

Shorting or opening up the coil will change the Qts. You could use a potentiometer to play with Qts.

Leaving one coil unconnected causes Qes to double. Shorting one coil will give you the same Q as series or parallell, it's just that sensitivity will be lower. (The shorted coil will give the same damping as when driven by a voltage source).

If you want to make a subwoofer with an impedance switch or something like that you should use a double pole changeover switch so you can choose between series and parallell.

Thanks.

I wondering if it's possible to do 4 or 8ohms with a switch.
Doesn't look like it. Or I can, but it's not optimal.

Both say 4 or 8 ohms?

Not 4 or 16 ohms.

Well 8 and 16 for the Kustom
Not 8 and 32 like I'd expect.
