what effect would splitting the peramp outs have on the signal they carry?

i was thinking about using y-jacks to have one feed goto my sub and the other to my amp.

will this degrade the signal quality at all? assuming a decent quality splitter is used of course.

I doubt any change would be audible, but this is one of those things you'd probably just have to try out and see. The basic problem, of course, is that a pre-amp doesn't put out much in the way of current, and it will suddenly see two sets of interconnects, with the various resistance, capacitance and inductance issues this brings with it. If these increase too far, you'll start hearing nasty problems. It shouldn't damage anything though, so give it a whirl, as those connectors aren't expensive.
