Default X-O point recommendations.

Hi All,

I just build some very basic open baffle speakers. Per speaker I used a 36"x48" sheet for 1/2MDF and installed a 12" Magnavox Alnico and a pair of Morse (Korea) drivers out of a no name 2-way. One is an 8" and the other is a 3.5".

Currently they are bi-wired off a 15wpc receiver: the 3.5" / 8" wired at 4ohms on chA and the 8ohm 12 on chB

I'm looking for recommendations on 2 points:

1) recommended crossover point between the 8" full range and the 3.5" full range that is acting as the tweeter. They're both 8ohm and I have them wired in parallel for a 4ohm load. Not knowing the freq ranges of the drivers, but knowing that the 8" sounds pertty nice overall, I'm thinking of using 3500Hz as a starting point. Now, can't I just solder in a 11.37uF capacitor inline to the 3.5" and, since they're wired in parallel, it will allow the 8" to run full range but give a -6db roll on at +/- 3500Hz for the tweeter?
Or should I actually use a low pass based on question 2 below?
Or should I even bother? Just let 'em run.

2) recommended cut off point for the 12 driver that really needs to be acting like more of a low bass driver than a full range driver. I'm currently using (2) old iron core inductors of unknown spec in front of the 12" and it's OK but needs to go lower. The similar Visaton NoBox uses a 250Hz X-O point). Using the same above guide I could use a 6.03mH inductor for an 8ohm, -6db 200Hz roll off or a 5.09mH inductor for a -6db 250Hz roll off.

Now don't get me wrong! These sound really good already. Totally unexpected. I surely don't want to go crazy with elecronics (total cost to date- $26.00) but I'd like to tailor them a bit. Right now they're pretty clear, got most of the bases covered and can be flat out loud! I just think the 12" are putting out a bit to much range. I have to turn the bass down (off neutral) as I power them up.
