I was looking through a slightly old Parts Express print catalog and noticed they carried Focal "W" cone drivers. This is the same cone technology that JM Labs uses in their Utopia series speakers seen here: http://www.focal-fr.com/home/en/
The drivers are different, though - the ones advertised do not use the "Power Flower" magnet. Probably a downgraded version of the Utopia drivers. I went to the website to find a link, but it turns out Parts Express no longer carries Focal drivers. Has anyone tried these drivers in a speaker project? The JM Labs Utopias get rave reviews (due in part to their berrylium tweeters which are unavailable to the public, AFAIK), so these drivers must have some merit. Also, does anyone know if these are still available to the public? Best, KT |
