Default Using same xover for different tweeter?

My two way speaker (Troels TJL) currently using Aurum Cantus G2si tweeter (and Seas W18E001 mid/woofer) but something about this ribbon tweeter that I don't like. It does not seem to have enough sparkle and presense of a good soft-dome tweeter. Therefore I would like to try the Scan speaker 9500.

Can I use the same xover for the 9500 as that of the G2si? What modification should I make? Could someone give me some suggestion?

Attached is the current xover for the G2si:

Just a quick question.....
Are you sure it's the sound of the tweeter you don't like, or could it be that the output from the tweeter are just a bit to weak compare to the mid/woofer ????

I think it's the former. On the one hand, the bells leading to the opening of Pink Floyd's Time a little too harsh and lean, while cymbals don't have the presense and sparkle as I recalled from a pair of speakers I used to have that used the 9500.

Maybe it's a little bit of both. I am not sure since I really don't know much about driver and xover design.

Hi there Andy

My experience with the G2Si tweeter has been very positive. They sound clean and open with almost bell like clarity. On the other hand I find that Troels enjoy a very laid back (almost dull) sound and therefore all his designs share this trait.

I would simply reduce the value of 1.5 Ohm or 1 Ohm (or short it out completely) before replacing the tweeter. I would suggest that the bells sounding to harsh is either the way the sound was recorded, or the tweeter is showing what is happening elsewhere in the playback chain.

Maybe you can tell us more about the rest of your setup?

Regards

Dirk

I did try to short it out complelely (no series resistor) but the soundstage collapsed into two separate speakers since I guess you hear mostly sound from the tweeter.

I am using mostly buget front end equipment consists of a nad541 cdp and 320Bee. Speaker cables are made of Cat5.

Could you share the xover you use for your G2si?

Hi there Andy

Without critisizing your equipment, I think that what you are hearing are the relative budget nature of your system. The G2Si tweeters are very revealing and very high end. Keep the CD player, but maybe you should build a class T amp from www.41hz.com . Drive it directly from the cd player with only a 50Kohm pot. I built an AMP 1B and I'm very impressed.

I don't have the circuit at work, but will post it in the next day or two. The design is for a Proac 2.5 clone with a G2Si tweeter. I also needed to reduce the value of the series resistor a little.

Regards

Dirk

I agree that those bells are supposed to sound harsh. Even when you're expecting them, they can make you jump and cringe What are you using as a comparison? Perhaps it's a bit too laid back.

I've owned several NAD amps and CD players through the years. There's better gear for sure, and I have some, but NAD is damn good. This complaint has nothing to do with the electronics IMO.

Change your Caps first. I switched to Mcap supreme silver, in one channel, now I'm dying to get another one.

Actually I am thinking to use top-of-the-line Claritycap since they are a lot cheaper.
