Both drivers have one thing in common: high Fs.

I think for the price you are probably not getting ripped off, but also for the price you could get something a bit larger/better.

The speaker first posted looks a lot like monacors Carpower predator or raptor-6.5. I have heard these in a car audio demo wall. I definitely would not call them hifi but if you want a smaller driver for car purposes it does produce impressive amounts of bass in the frequency rqange for which it's usuable.

I really like the idea of having the spider on the other side. By supporting the cone/voice coil at 2 ends (surround and back) you can support the moving assembly much better than by 2 points close together (surround and front of VC). However, I would stay away from these drivers since they are unheard of and are probably just some car audio boomers for 17 yr olds.

Not to mention the spider contributes greatly to the distortion of a driver. Having it flapping away behind the stationary motor should be a big plus, especially in a fullrange or midrange driver.
I would take it a step further and incorporate the spider stlye of the Goodmans axiom 80 or a silk thread tri point system. Far less air resistance.

The 9mm is just the voice coil overhang (that's why P.Audio catalogue indicates low XMAX figures for their TM series). But because these drivers have dual motors, they are quite linear up to full excursion. I think these drivers are made by P.Audio, just like the Monacor Raptor series.

See some pretty impressive distortion figures for the Raptor at:

http://world.altavista.com/babelfish...esures_ETF.htm

These drivers may be based on the Hyperdynamics patent:

http://www.makeitlouder.com/loudspeakers.html

Some of these drivers may be considered for very compact below resonance subs because of the high fs, but the ones I checked were thermally limited and not excursion limited.

The Raptors have a few fans on German forums, where the sound is generally described as "dry and precise", probably due to the low distortion at high excursion.

Otherwise useful for car subs.

Scroll down for the TS-parameter of the Raptor-6.

Yup, it appears to be a Carpower thing...interesting indeed.
