Default Stuffing material obstructing airflow query:

Hello all,

I've lined a speaker box with deadening material and about to apply dampening material. I'm using 200gsm Dacron. I've had good results with this in my first speaker, and decided to use it again.

My baffle is 1" thick but rather narrow (external width: 7.5"). The inside of the baffle is too narrow to chamfer with my router.

Does anyone have experience with applying dampening material in this situation? Does Dacron impede airflow? Initially I had planned to line all panels. Perhaps I keep the SIDE panels near this area totally clear?

Here's a picture of the situation:

thanks,
Thanh

Of course dacron impeeds airflow, that's it's purpose.

But it won't be harmfull in your suituation unless it's physically rubbing on the woofer's cone.

Yes, to my knowleadge the point of damping material is to place an impedance in the way of the air flow in the box to prevent sympathetic reverberations and the such.

There is no simple and distinct answer to that question.

Stuffing material that is too close to a driver's backside can move with the airflow and will do this in a nonlinear fashion sometimes which will in turn lead to nonlinearities in the driver's behaviour.

So it is best to TRY it out.

Regards

Charles

Why not do things the 'old fashioned' way, and enclose the rear of the driver in a loose-weave bag?

That sounds like a neat way of damping drivers. Is this used quite often?

I believe the point of this is not to damp anything but rather to keep the stuffing away from the driver.

Hello,

Thank you everybody.

I think my question was a bit convoluted, but after much consideration of all replices, I decided to do it this way:

regards,
Thanh.
