Qts: .39 Vas: .133 ft^3 (3.78 L) Fs: 57 Fb: 40 (~.7*Fs) Line length would be 5.7 ft Inner pipe diameter would be 4.5" (5" PVC pipe should be used) Fibreglass stuffing -- 1/3 lb per ft^3 You could use 6" pvc pipe but the length would have to be 47" yielding an Fb of 57 (the driver's Fs) |

Are the advantages of a tapered line relative to a 2-way speaker
system less, where the LF driver would be crossing over as high as 2500 Hz. Would a straight line be better overall? Jeff |

I think that the advanyages of a tapered system listed above are still true for a two way crossed over to a tweeter. The 3/4 wavelength mode, and the other higher order wavelength modes, will be higher in frequency for a tapered TL where the stuffing is more effective at damping them out.

Thanks Martin. I just assumed that a tapered line was superior.
My first pair of TL's are now 25 years old, so I'm a little out of the loop so to speak. After seeing the info on your site, I realize TL theory has changed dramatically. Jeff |
