Hey Al
How do you do your veneering? It looks pretty good in the pics. Personally I use a vacuum press and yellow glue. I've also worked with low foan polyurethane. Next big job I'm going to try hide glue for the whole thing just to get back in practice. Any thoughts? MArk

Mark.
We use a contact cement dry method. We contact up all part we have found a special roller for not a great cost that will roll contact cement or glues and leave little or no bubbles. We are normally doing 3-4 sets of cabinets at a time.So we let all parts dry 100% This normally takes a day to apply glue to all the veneer pieces for all these cabinets plus the cabinets. Then the next day we start applying the top and bottoms to the cabinets. With a iron. This way we can control the veneer location, some say takes longer, but as we do a look at veneer as a art sort of speaking. We take pride in getting the veneers to match up were we can really the front and the top of the cabinet is what I try for a make 100% when I can. Matching the front with the top is what takes the time in layout as well. We like to look at a speaker does not matter what size or shape as a finished piece not just a box and throw veneer on and put it out the door. Press yes we have looked at them but as we try to produce the cabinets by hand and control the final look as much as we can. With a press you set up and walk away as well you can not do a full wrap as we do.Larger pieces still with wrap if we can and the customer like the look of the wrap around if not and they want sharp square corners that is done as well. Look down 3rd pic down we do the cabinets for the Philip. http://www.enjoythemusic.com/montreal2005/phil2/ Going to try a few different glues the Unibond we have on order and will try a few things with them as well as the cold bond. But in general we perfer heat contact. Some say slower but depends on what is you method Al |
