Hi im building CAT5 speaker cables and im mostly likely gonna be installing a zobel network. my question is what resistor and cap do i need for my speakers?

here are the specs for them...

also, when im installing the network, how and where do i install it?

I don't see the need for a zobel. What makes you think you need one?

the cat5 cable im making is 27 pair of 23 awg wire and it has a running length of 10.5 feet.

and?

JiggaD369 4th May 2005 02:40 PM

alot of people have experienced their amp oscillating at 8 feet where mine is longer.

That's because the scrawny twisted pairs presents a capacitive load to the amp. To protect against that you need an inductor in the output of your amp, not a zobel network in parallel with it. Or just use normal beefy zip cord :)

well i spent over two days makin this cable and im def using it. lol. what kind of inductor and how would i place it?

About 10 turns of 14ga. insulated electrical wire wound around a 10 ohm, 5 watt resistor should do the trick. Strip the wire leads and solder to the resistor. See illustration.

Connect one end of this unit to the + amp output and the + speaker wire to the other end.

do i need buy a specific type of resistor like cermic, carbon film, etc?

A regular 5w wire wound "sand" (read ceramic cased) resistor would do for me. Others might say you need something better.
