I replaced my SS99000 domes with LCY130's about two months ago. I am actively driving them using a DEQ PDC 2.6. I determined empirically that no protection cap is necessary in my configuration.
I consider the LCYs to be the single best upgrade I have done to my Rhythm satellites. Highly recommended. Unfortunately, however, the 130's are not drop-in replacements for the 99000s. I had to increase the size of the through-hole of my tweeter openings in order to fit them.
