Default 2-way kit recom. for "shop" speakers

I'm a full time custom woodworker and very amatuer diy speaker enthusiast. My shop speakers are dead, so I was considering building some kind of super budget speakers. I guess I'd prefer a kit, but that's not essential if there is a proven design out there that a newbie like myself can figure out.

The boxes are no problem, and I was an engineer in another career, so I should be able to decipher a schematic. I'd like to keep the cost (excluding cabinets) under $200.

Suggestions?

Adire has some free designs that are serious bargains.

Another option is John Krutke's Silver Flute/Vifa design.

How big do you want them?
What amp do you have?
How loud do you listen?
What kind of music?
Where are you located?

Cal,

Size doesn't matter (no giggles please)

I'll power them either with a 50W reciever or a 100W amp, solid state

Normal listening levels are moderate as this is for a place of business and we have to be able to hear the phone. However, there are times when we don't care about the stupid phone and we crank it up.

We also periodically use this are as our cigar smoking/beer drinking lounge, so they will get listened to a bit more critically than the term "shop speakers" might suggest.

Musical taste ranges from blues to jazz to folk and rock. Not much classical, but a little when customers are in the shop.

We are in Colorado Springs, CO

TImn8r - good links, thanks
