I have EV compression drivers/horns and I like high impact sound
with lots of clean spl. Horns do this well but SQ suffers a bit compared to a quality dome. But the dome lacks in output. The SA fits in the middle. High quality, high spl and not 'horn sound'. Problem is... expensive.

I don't consider it a step down in quality over true ribbon, SQ is
subjective :)

I think people that compare the planar to a ribbon will normally
say the ribbon is better.. mainly because what planars have they
compare with ? Lets say you compare the cheapest $30 PT2 planar
to the cheapest Fountek ribbon that cost 4x more. Everyone will
say the ribbon is better. How much better. Some say 5% - 15%
better and the upgrade is not justified. Others are willing to pay
4x more to get the small % improvement.

It's not a fair comparison, a $25 driver vs. a $100 driver.
The SA planar will beat the $100 ribbon, but again not a fair fight,
a $600 planar vs. a $100 ribbon -- hehehe

I compared a single SA {8" tweeter} to an array of PT2's, eight of
them. A 52" line {1 ohm load, parallel wiring} vs. an 8" line. Cost $240 vs. $600.

The SA can easily generate as much spl or even more and sound
cleaner. While the PT2 line is impressive vs. a single PT2 and the
price is cheaper, $240 vs. $600, the SA still comes out the winner
if I had to pick between the two solutions. The only thing that lacks is the big sound stage created by the big array, and the SA has to
be aimed to get the sweet spot, but once you have that sweet
spot dialed in, it's.... sweet ... rofl...

Now expand on the idea. SA line array... That is major evil .......

I agree with your post, and I'm glad you elaborated. I actually was also trying to say that those "truisms" -that one type of technology is always "better" than another, usually have exceptions, and from what I've read the SA's are exceptional ;)
As you also mention, how things are used makes a difference too...
