Default monitor / hi-fi

Hi,

Why some headphones have higher impedance ? Regular headphones are around 32-55ohm, some are around 120-150ohm and studio ones are 600ohm. What is so special about 600 ohm ? I understand they can be easily connected in parallel in a studio environment, but this cant be the only reason.

A specific example:
AKG K240 monitor : studio headphone - 600ohm
AKG K240 studio : hi-fi headphone - 55ohm
AKG K240 df : reference headphone for radio stations - 600ohm

What is the difference between sonic quality of a monitor (for studio use) headphone and a hi-fi one ? Those above are even in the same class (K240).

Anyone knows what is so special about AKG K240 df (reference headphone for radio stations) ?

Since I cannot drive an 600ohm speaker without a special equipment for hi-fi use, does it make sense to use 600ohm headphone ?

What is the difference between a monitor (for studio use) loadspeaker and hi-fi loadspeaker ? As I know brand names for two are very different, although the approach is about similar (flat response).

Thank you so much in advance.

BTW, I am a junior hi-fi listener and amateur musician.

I'm no headphone expert, but Dan's Data has lots of information on the subject. Look under "Speakers and headphones" on the link above.

I have had and used the 24o Df's for both music production and listening for pleasure for many years.

The DF's are difuse field and not enclosed. the 240 studio monitors are enclosed and not DF.
The Df sound better in my opinion...more natural, but no good in a studio...only in the controll room as they are open.

Worth the $ i spent many times over
