Default Finding an L-pad or resistor... help?

right now I have a line array with where each side includes:

18 NSBs- 6.89 ohm load
1 Eminence horn - 8 ohm load, 16 ohm after resistors
8 7" midbasses- final 4 ohm load

what I need is a l-pad that I could use for the NSB's...

each tower will get around 1200 watts RMS with about 320 to NSBs... 550 to mids... and I already have an L-pad resistor system for the Horn to

is there a L-pad that could take 200-300 watts for the NSBs??

I'm not sure about the L-Pads, but do you have pics of the arrays? They sound like they would look awesome.

1200watts RMS seems like ALOT of power to be feeding per channel to the mains, even if they are comprised of over 25 drivers apeice.

With line arrays you should gain efficiency and sensitivity due to the fact that you have so many drivers (closely spaced, so they are mutually coupled).

I can understand the desire to fully power your arrays, however, for home use you probably wont need much over 100watts before you reach a sound level that can be not only fatiguing on the ears, but might cause permanant damage after prolonged exposure

Of course, if theyre not for home use, thats another beast

lol... yes I know... it's called dynamic headroom

I will post pics here and at CAF this weekend when everything is done done...

yes they are gorgeous...

I COULD go with say a Crown CE1000
or Crest CPX 1500
or QSC 1450 instead

My current choice is the QSC 2450... but I haven't bought it yet... I'm working a deal out...

I can downgrade... but $450 for a 2450 seems good... and headroom=god...

so you mean 100 watts to each tower?????

well the mids are 50 watt RMS each... and the NSB's I've put 75 watts on one and it was a champ about it...

the horn's RMS is 80 watts RMS...
that's why I'm going with huge power....

how about 550 per tower??? think that's enough?
around 300 to mids... 170 to NSB's and 70 to horns?????

It would just be considered overkill by many. I see no problem with having that much power on tap, if you're willing to pay for it!

Have you considered the idea of active crossovers and seperate amps for the different bands. It would probably be best considering that you wouldnt need super high power passive crossovers that would suck away some of your power anyway. Also the attenuation can be done before the amplifier stage.

Using active crossovers with seperate amps would increase your headroom also!


I believe I said it before, your drivers may be able to handle 1200 watts of total power, but consider the fact that every double in drivers equals +6db in total output!

yes I know... active is a good deal more expensive... and my xovers can handle up to 1000 watts for the mids... 400 watts for the NSB's and 200 watts for the tweets (not that it will ever go that high)...

they are passive... not that much $$$ and 3 seperate amps would be expensive
