Default Anyone know what 3" driver Cambridge uses?

I do not have a picture yet (let me know if posting one will help and I will take one) , but I blew a full range 3" driver (with a Square fascia) that was housed in a satellite cube in a Cambridge soundworks "Microworks" shielded stereo speaker system. It comes with a Sub that has a 6" woofer:

http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/p...microworks.pdf

Creative (who owns CSW) is not selling the driver for me to replace, they are asking me to ship the speaker to them and the they will charge $50 plus parts plus return shipping... What a rip off!... the whole system is probably not worth that much!

Can anyone help with what driver I can use, I do not mind to sub another driver even if I need to replace both drivers and play with the crossover, I just want to make sure it fits in the case (and preferably in the 4 screw holes already in there.)

Any pointers to any reseller or anyone who stocks many Full range 3' drivers would help too. thanks!

Barring being able to find the driver, have you poked around on Ebay? A lot of times stuff like this comes up on there for sale.

Do you mean like the raw driver or the whole system? I'd hate to buy a system to strip it for parts...

Well, you might be able to find both. Most likely you'll find someone who has the cubes but no woofer.. That kind of stuff.

Good luck!

If you find out, let me know. I havea Cambridge Soundworks Model 3 (I think it's called). It's the one with the satelite speakers that pack up inside the sub case for toting around. Same problem. One bad speaker. The stinkers want fifty bucks to replace the driver that probably doesn't cost them over a buck fifty. I can afford to blow fifty bucks, but I resent being taken advantage of that way. Don't they want repeat business? I'll never buy anything from that place again.

I'll bet it's the same driver. Mine says,

High Quality Loudspeakers
LPB 80/19/120FS
49101 10285/01
4 ohm 15 watt
42466
Made in Germany

I't three inches square.

Pic attached of my "Stinker" yes it does smell after burning up....

The 97/03 is prolly date of manufacture cause I got mine in Nov 97.

This is what I will probably get. Not optimal but so fat the only driver of similar size I have found.

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=299-430

Its a 9 ohm load, but heck it will fit and I use an external amplifier and separate sub anyway. I will need to tweak the crossover, but hey, those guys are not getting my $50

If you don't mind mucking with the crossover, some obvious replacement wideband 3" drivers would be:

Fostex FF85 or FE87
Aurasound NS3-194
Tangband - various
Audax - various

These are mostly 8 ohm, which would be OK but they might not play as loud.

Try madisound.com.

Oops. Almost forgot the visaton F8 SC4. Which may be the same driver? Would need to be ordered from germany. http://www.visaton.de/english/artikel/art_212_1_3.html

That looks like a better replacement! However my custom sub is crossed at 100Hz and I also have a tweeter on top of my sat (ala B&W style ;-) so the Vifa with 90Hz to 7kHz seems to be my ticket.

The Hi-Vi seems a better sub to the original.
