Hello, I am in the process of building my first DIY project which consists of a Fountek JP3 Ribbon tweeter, a Vifa PL11 midrange, and two 10" Dayton RS270 "Reference" woofers.
I believe I have compensated for baffle step in the midrange by going with a less sensitive (by 6 db), than the Vifa, and the tweeter will need to be compensated for anyway since it is much more sensitive. However, back to my question. Where should I start on an x-over design. I realize that I am almost certainly going to need help to design it properly, but by no means do I want someone to do it for me. I am told that maybe an 'elliptic' filter may be good for the tweeter? I am going to mount all of the drivers and then take measurements out of doors in as wide open of a space as I can find and then do the final x-o, but I was just wondering where I should start. I have LspCAD 6, and x-over simulator from FRD Cons. I wish I had LEAP's filter shop right now :-) Thanks, Bryan Jackson |
