Default Fountek ribbon question

Testing instructions for Fountek JP-2 says:

"* Turn off the amplifier before suspending the connection, and powering off amplifier is a must before connection."

Is this still necessarry if I have passive crossover before the speaker? Man, I connect and disconnect the ordinary (non-ribbon) spekers hundereds of times while trying all different possibilities with my speaker system. Turn the amp on and off each time and wait the caps to discharge... This would kill me!
