My future brother in-law loves to spend money and is wanting a new set of speakers. He was looking at a few "high-end" speakers when I told him to hold off and let me see what I could find him.
I'm wondering if there are any free plans available for an absolute killer, floorstanding speaker? He would probably go as high as $2000 for all materials. I tried to talk him into a set of the Linkwitz Orions, but he's not willing to go that high I was also looking at a few designs over at selahaudio.com, like the Carnelian. For $800 in parts, they look pretty nice. Lastly, if you know of any other plans/kits worthy oh high dollar drivers, speak up! Thanks a million! |

The Seas Thor is a highly regarded and very popular floorstander. Madisound offers a Scan Speak 8545/9500 or 8545/9700 combo.
Northcreek has a lot of highly regarded designs. Euphase has some. You may get ideas from these places. |

It's for his brother-in-law that doesn't want to spend that much for the Orions. $2000 max.

Thanks for the replies so far! Keeping a few of those designs in mind.
Have any of you tried/heard this open baffle by Linkwitz? http://www.linkwitzlab.com/proto.htm |

If he likes to show off, there's always the ProAC clone - he can tell people he has an "upgraded" version of a $4k speaker. Otherwise, the North Creek Rhythm or Borealis would be great, and those Scan Speak drivers may sound better to him than others (e.g. Seas Excel) if he's not an audiophile. If he doesn't mind the looks, Dennis Murphy's MBOW1 3way (or upcoming CAOW1 3way) would be excellent.

Perhaps you can plant an Orion seed in his head...?
