Default Modeling software, no soundcards/mics

I'm interested in a simulation program.

I am willing to enter data points and would like a library containing popular drivers as well.

I want to model drivers + crossovers with the ability to vary offset.

Optimization routines are essential.

I want to avoid microphones and sound cards.

Calsod 1.4 seems to fit the bill.

Anyone here using it? Are you happy? Is there an equivalent at lower cost or free?

Speak to me.

You really should check out the KX Driver and get yourself an Audigy.

Fantastic bit of kit.

I'm a long-time Calsod user.

Pros: Cheap, versatile

Cons: Horrible user interface

I have no desire to use anything else.

The standard version of LspCAD version 5.25 was nice value for money and included JustMLS for measuring drivers if you ever wanted to. Shame he raised the price to stupid levels for version 6 and now you can only buy it from his website which includes, if you live in the UK rediculous taxes for wherever ingemar lives.

For me I saved almost £100 buying pro from the states then direct from ingemar. Now he wants the same I payed originally for the pro version to upgrade to version 6. I am not paying another £350 to get version6 pro. If you already have version 5.25 you should get a free upgrade if only because the user friendlyness has dropped off the chart, the original is a piece of cake to use, this other one is rubbish in comparison.

I'm not sure what all that has to do with my inquiry.

It was late when I posted that, you want to model drivers... oops.

Just use Speaker Workshop, you can make the SPL file in a spreadsheet, export to tab separated variable format and import into speaker workshop. Problem is your phase will probably not be correct - so you need to extract minimum phase with the FRC (from FRD consortium) before bringing into SW.

For making the spreadsheet, I think there is a FRD consortium product that may help. IF not, you can simply cascade a highpass function with a lowpass function and cascade a bunch of other biquads to model the ups and downs of the response - this is actually what CALSOD does, IIRC.

That's the hard part. Over the years I've found that the only driver data you can trust is the data you create yourself from measurements of your own drivers. With other people's data, you rarely know the measurement conditions such as drive level and mic distance, baffle shape, driver placement, enclosure volume and tuning, gating setting, and on and on. As such, it's impossible to match levels and align phase, and the response curve is likely inaccurate.
