Default Suitable replacement for a Vifa TC26SF05-06 tweeter

Hi, I'm looking for a suitable replacement for a Vifa TC26SF05-06 tweeter.

My friend is not satisfied by this tweeter. He would like to replace it and keep everything the same. I guess it's a bit problematic according to the x-over network and all built for it, especially because it's a 6 ohms tweeter.

I was thinking to suggest him the Classic line Vifa D26NC-55-06 tweeter, I don't know if it would be a big improvement over the TC26SF05-06 since they are sold at the same price. Same impedance and better FR, I guess the existing x-over could be kept the same. Would that sound better, please suggest suitable alternatives!

Help please? Thanks alot again!

What you need to do is look through the data on the different tweeters looking for the best match on impedance and frequency response.

Can someone direct me on a manufacturer besides Vifa who sells a bunch of 6 ohms tweeters?

You might try the H831 from SEAS....

If you show us the crossover network, we might be able to better recommend a tweeter.

Also, what was it about the tweeter's sound that you didn't like? Describe what types of music had this sound.

He's saying that the highs just sound "weak". He likes dome tweeters, sweet sound but not bright, but he think the highs are not there when using the standard Vifa tweeter.

He's using Acoustic Energy Aegis One speakers.
Crossover frequency: 2.8kHz.
Crossover slopes: asymmetric second-/third-order.

Thanks!

A description of weak implies a response problem, rather than a description of harsh or bright might describe a distortion problem. Here's the Aegis One frequency response below.

The padding of the tweeter in the Aegis is probably selected by the designer so that the tweeter's natural response peaking from 1-2khz does not create a peak in the overall summed response. So the tweeter level is lower, causing a dip from 3-9khz, rather than a higher level which would be flat from 3-9khz but have peaking in the 1-2khz range.

I might suggest the Seas 27TFFC. It's a lower Qts tweeter than the 27TFF, and as a result would have a lower response peaking in the 1-2khz range. It also has a similar impedence profile and about 2 dB more efficiency. That will bring up the Aegis One's weak midtreble and reduce slight peaking around 2khz. There's a good chance it might work without changes to the crossover.

Of course the better way to handle it is to give it a better crossover design.

Simon, stop replying so fast. I was editing my message to add a few things. I added the bit about the designer's selected padding.
