Hi!
I would like to build a TML speaker with this fullrange driver: Fs: 59 Hz Sd: 132 cm2 Re: 6.2 Ohm Qt: 0.367 Vas: 20.63 Bl: 6.83 Qe: 0.43 Qm: 2.51 Well, I would like to please the TML experts to suggesting me what kind of cabinet would be ideal for this driver? My initial specification: -to go so deep as possible -to get the best transient response I attached 2 simulations: a TML and a ML-TL, but I don't know wich would give me better result in the reality? I mean: may be the ML-TL could be slightly boomy with room gain? The TL has a gentle roll-off could be work better with the room gain? I know classical BR and TL speakers, but I don't know how is sounding a ML-TL? Has it so nice transient response as a classical TL? Waiting for your oppinions and help: Tyimo |

HI!
GM: It is a unknown (hungarian) fulrange driver. Made in a small manufacture. I should say a kind of "Fostex replica". But what is with my question about the transient response? Has the ML-TL similar sound than a TML? Any suggestions???? Tyimo |

Greets!
OK then, I assume it will not have much linear excursion. This means the better transient response (TR) of the TL due to its gradual roll off will severely restrict LF (and probably midbass) output so either you will have to attenuate the signal below ~80-100Hz and/or only listen at very moderate SPL, otherwise the increased harmonic distortion will make it sound worse than the higher group delay ML-TL, though it will still be somewhat better than a BR. WRT sonic differences, beyond the ML-TL having much greater gain that will interact with the room more, there's not much, if any, audible difference and why of the two, I recommend the ML-TL and increase the vent length to lower Fp if there's any room 'boom'. WRT 'best' TR combined with the lowest extension, this means either a very large sealed cab or a more traditional stuffed pipe to mimic one in a smaller package, so either a ~206.3L sealed cab or an end loaded Alpha TL ~53.27" long with a ~103.502"^2 cross sectional area (CSA) stuffed with 1.551lbs/ft^3 of polyfil. Hi GM!
Thanks a lot! Do you realy say that I should/could go lower with this driver in a ML-TL? I thought it is not recommended to go much more deeper than the driver Fs and I thought it is already over tuned too. So, with the ML-TL I would get similar sound then with a TL? Super! I like it. :-) Another 2 question: -is there any dB gain, if I would paraleling 2 driver, but with different dB? I mean one has 87 and the other has 92? -could you tell me where can I find infos about the original B&W Nautilus closed TML speaker? Thanks and greets: Tyimo |

You're welcome!
No, I am saying you can tune the ML-TL as required to better blend into the room gain, if any. In this respect it is much more flexible than the TL. Correct, if tuned to the TL's low Fb, I doubt you will be able to tell whether one or the other sounds better. Yes there will be some gain, though it will be based on their combined cone area, not their reference sensitivity. No, I do not keep up with consumer designs. I do recall a website that detailed the crafting of a clone though, so maybe you can find it in a search. GM

Greets!
You are welcome! Let us know what you build and how they sound. GM

Hi!
I have an another driver what is good for closed-sealed speaker, so I would like to ask: Is there any rule of thumbs how to design a good closed end TML speaker? Greets: Tyimo |
