Default Bi-Radial horn tweeters - what's the proper orientation?

I have a pair of Electro-Voice tweeters that feature bi-radial horns. That is, the horn flares looks like two identical plump, round lips (or the side view of two donuts stacked together) that are either side of the tweeter diaphram.

Originally, these were mounted in a PA cabinet with these rounded flares oriented one on top of the other, with one above the diaphram and one below it.

The Feb issue of AudioXpress features an article about a similar looking JBL tweeter, but I notice the author mounts them with the rounded flares on the left and right of the diaphram.

I wonder what the proper orientation of this kind of horn is. If anyone has any experience with these types of horns, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Sorry I don't have any photos right now. A photo clear up any confusion as to what these horns look like but, alas, I have no hosting.

Thanks,
KT

The old JBL4425 Studio Monitors had a Bi-Radial Horn with "lips". If the EV is similar to the JBL2404H Bi-Radial Horn, it should not matter as dispersion is 100 x 100 degrees.

Just what you didn't want to know, but most folks refer to those as "buttcheeks" horns.

They are more commonly oriented horizontally, but JBL often seemed to orient them vertically ('lips' side by side vs over and under).

In theory the dispersion is the same either way, but in practice I'm sure it's slightly different. It is important that there be a smooth transition from the woofer to the HF WRT polar pattern. Try both ways and see what sounds better. One may suit your room acoustics more than the other. I suspect that side by side orientation will have tighter horizontal dispersion in the top octave.
