I am the proud owner of a pair of TDL Studio 1 speakers which recently I had upgraded with the help of a local audio firm (Wilmslow Audio) - new drivers (Peerless HDS mid-bass, Scanspeak D2905/9700 tweeter), crossover and internal wiring. They sound wonderful (with Musical Fidelity equipment).
Can I fit a dedicated mid-driver below the tweeter in oder to enrich the range of sound without interfering with the integrity of the transmission line and its bass reproduction? If so, would the Vifa D75MX-31 or Peerless HDS 850488 or 850489 be suitable as they have a shallow depth and will not protrude into the transmission line. Any advice re similar changes to TDL Studio 2 or 3 speakers? Paul Smith

As an ex owner of TDLs I know what you mean.
![]() A good way to do this would be to use a sealed back mid, such as the Morel MDM55. Do however bear in mind that the crossover will need to be completely reworked if you add another driver...

Thanks for theat. Do you thing that a Visaton G50 FFL 8 would be a godd choice for a mid-driver? A good frequency range and not too great a depth (50mm).

I don't know that driver, but the specs look interesting. What can I say, but give it a go!
