Scan Speak 9500, Scan Speak 9800 and Vifa XT25.
Which one is best to match with Scan Speak Slice Paper 18W4531 or 18W8531 in floor-stanging application? |

definitely not XT25.
Check this out: http://home1.stofanet.dk/troels.grav...dex_b/SP95.htm i'm also considering the 18w8531 for a 2way floorstander. But i'm rather uncertain about it, since it is rather fragile. Only 60W peak power and 86 dB sensitivity.

Hi Santi
I have been using the Xt25 with the smaller scanspeak slotted cone driver (15W8530) for about 2 years and have never really been satisfied with its performance until recently. I had tried traditional as well as the series crossover approach. This speaker combination (XT25 + 18W8531) appears to be similar what is used in the Krell LAT-2 speakers (no I haven't heard them) I now triamp my system and the electronic xover is at 48dB/octave for the tweeter , and at last its good to my ears... If I had my time over I would probably go for the SS tweeters (It was cost that decided it for me to go with the XT25 at the time) My 2 cents worth Cheers

Thanks qubix and george a
Both of you tend to say the same thing that Scan Speak's tweeter is better than Vifa XT25. That the way I think. I post this question because someone had told me that XT25 is better than SS9500 and also better than 9700 too. I have a project to build DIY speakers. Now I'm on choosing a plan. The candidates are. 1. Troel's TJL 2. Troel's SP95 3. Seas's Trym 3. Seas's Thor 4. ORION I hope I could found anyone who use those speakers and let me listen to. After that I could select to build one that best for my taste. Reagrds, Santi |

I cannot comment on the SS9500, but I have both the SS9800 and the Vifa XT25 . The SS9800 is one great tweeter. Far superior to the XT25.
I spoke to a italian loudspeaker designer. He has tried almost all the tweeters there is, and felt the SS9800 is one of the best. He now uses the SS R7100 (radioator) in his "top of the line" speakers. The reason why he doesn't use the SS9800 is almost from a "comercial" point of view. Alu Dome doesn't sound right. "Revelator" or "Radiator" sounds more groovy, if you know what I mean. The only speaker manufacturer I know that uses the SS9800 is Revel with their "top of the line" models. |
