While I may quickly get shot down for this, I recently took an old pair of Avid 102's which date back from 1978, and "literally" swapped out the old tweeters and woofers with the following.
Tweeter...DAYTON DC28F-8 Woofer...DAYTON DC250-8 (10 inch) The crossover is the stock Avid 102 crossover which crosses over at 2000... They sound amazing. I know I went against all the rules, but it was an experiment. My question is, how would I be able to recreate this project using a stock dayton crossover with maybe a zobel filter and a tweeter pad? (I basically want to make another set of these for my basement) Thanks! Buster |

Hey I have a pair of those same speakers. They sound pretty good but I'm thinking the mids are a little recessed. Did you compare it with the speakers with stock drivers?

I am not sure I understand your question...all I can say is those Avids with the new drivers are amazing. I have a set of Bose 501's in my basement and they sound nothing like the avids.

I was just asking if you had listened to the Avids with the original drivers before changing them out.
Thanks |
