Power rating

Help needed on power rating for Celestion truvox 1525 E and Truvox 1530.J have the factory ratings but they give only RMS power rating and what is strange no one want to give me the maximum power that drivers can handle. So please if possible what is the maximum power that TRUVOX 1525 E and TRUVOX 1530 can handle.J emphasize that these components would be used in a small club for playback only,1525E with cdx 1745 in a full range cabinet and 1530 in a bass cabinet. Please could someone provide this information because J am in a dilemma between these and/or something in that price range.

the RMS rating is the one you require it tells you how much power the coils will take before thermally burning out ie melting with a constant signal

however music isn't constant so a rule of thumb is that you are able to double a speakers rating when choosing an amplifier
this allows you CLEAN power upto the cones maximum linear travel (Xmax)

the amount of power required to reach Xmax is determined by the amount of control through loading that the cabinet it is in can exert

go beyond Xmax and you risk distorted sound but more importantly go too far and you'l break it

What synergy is saying about xmax is important. I have drivers rated at 150W RMS continuous, and 1000W peak, but they only require about 11W to reach xmax at low freqencies (below about 50Hz), so the enclosure and also the freq range play a big part as well.

If you model in something like unixbox or winisd that will give you a better idea of the power handling (xmax wise) in your enclosure, the RMS is only part of the story.

Also if you have a 10W amp and clip it, you will blow 100W or higher rated speakers, it may not seem intuitive but it is easier to blow a driver with an underpowered amp than it is with an over powered one
