Default Dayton RS150S vs RS125S

I'm building a traditional 3-way speaker using the Dayton Reference 10" and the Seas 27TDFC. I had originally planned on using the Dayton Reference 6" as the midrange driver, but I wanted to get some opinions on using the Dayton Reference 5" instead. The midrange driver will probably be crossed over at 200Hz on the low end, I'm not sure where the high-end cross will be, but it will probably be between 1750Hz and 3000Hz. I will be using an active crossover so I'll have the ability to play with the crossover points. I'd like to hear some opinions, thanks!

Chances are that the 6" has lower distortion levels for the same SPL. At 3kHz, the 6" woofer shouldn't have any off-axis problems.

The RS150 is more efficient and seems to be a little easier to work with. It also has 1.2mm more xmax (over 40% more if you prefer looking at it that way). They seem fairly interchangeable otherwise with respect to where you can cross them and the like. IMHO unless you are limited on baffle width where the RS150 wouldn't fit, it's the one to go with.

Still tweaking. Extends down to ~40hz in-room, though I have to watch it on bass-heavy tracks at higher volumes.

Heh, wow, interesting, I just got done building a center channel speaker that is almost exactly like that. Mind sharing your crossover design?

ping me with an e-mail. chris at eldamar dot net

This is an attempt at a "universal" design, able to be used vertically or horizontally, and with a relatively low parts count (hopefully). 3rd order electric plus impedance or contouring filter, 4th order acoustic slopes. It sounds quite good though I think there are a couple trouble spots to iron out yet. It was also an experiment in methodology, so I have actually not yet measured response. That comes as soon as I get a computer working with measuring (think I fried my soundcard so I'm going through the process of setting up my wife's for measuring).
