Default DIY project

I know this question probably gets asked all the time, but I feel everyone gets at least one. I did do a search, but a person has to know what they're looking for before they can find it

I want to spend no more than $500. They will be primerally used for HT duty, but had better sound very nice when playing music. There is probably a sub in my future, but not yet, we'll stick to a 2.0 for starters. I want to make something someone else already made, because crossover design frightens me , and a good crossover is the most important piece of a loudspeaker.

I've come to the conclusion that there are 3 things I could do that make sense:

1. Full range towers.
2. Bookshelf monitors and a sub
3. screw the whole DIY thing and buy some n0hr 4.0's

Educate me please?

Thanks!

How about no crossover? Putting a WR125S into the recommended 7 liter box and crossing to a sub at 80 Hz makes for a nice inexpensive and easy to build system.

Spots,

Last summer I was in the same boat but was unaware of diy audio so I bought a pair of B&W 602 S3's,but last weekend I built the WR125 that Timn8ter recomended. The WR125s sound better, imagine much better, but bass isnt quite as good. With $70 drivers you have more than enough money for a good sub and a sub amp to go along. I spent $170 on speakers and all materials verses the B&W 602s that retail for $600

The WR125s would be great for the entire home theater, you can't have better imaging than a full range. There was also a thread about adding a supertweeter.

This is my thread about the WR125

Also check out this

and this

just look at all the loudspeaker threads and they came up with a full range diyaudio speaker using a Fostex driver that you can build.

Just keep on searching,

Josh

thanks for the replies people (what up Mini!) I have already done a lot of research, but wanted to see what people would say if I left the floor open. I don't really want to build a single driver, as I've already built a pair of speakers with the Tang Band 3" driver. I've been considering the following.

Wayne's Eros
ProAc 2.5 clone
GR Research AV floorstanders
Dennis Murphy's MBOW1 3-way

I'm leaning towards the Eros initially, but the 4 ohm part could be a problem. Depending on what the repair shop says, I may not have a 4 ohm capable reciever anymore. (if its toast, I'm gonna get one of the Panasonic XR's with the digital amp)

also, I'm VERY HIGHLY considering the ar.com from madisound, combined with a sub of some sort. $175 from madisound doesn't sound to bad at all...
