Default simple tb w3-871 speaker

made these (well i still need to finish them) for my sisters wedding present, original inspiration was timn8tr's isa. which i gave up on (too much work.

6.5" wide, 20" tall 6" deep. 3/4" mdf

3 drivers wired in parallel. need to do something about the midrange.... a little much, thinking of trying the BSC from my elf 1.5 and trying it out....

any one have an idea on port size / length? i have the same ports that came with the elf kit. but not sure about length

3 in parallel is around 2.7 ohm load, might be hard on whatever amp is going to be used.

What kind of paint or veneer are you going to be using?

Also what sub is that on the left, adire?

thanks

It might be better to wire 2 in series then parallel to the 3rd for a 12 ohm nom (Re = 10). What you lose in efficiency (not much really) you'll make up with a more stable load.
Are those dimensions internal or external?

The speaker on the left looks like the Adire 81 (AV8 and Audax tweeter).

I'm going to make 3 tb speakers following John Krutke's design. They will be used as front speakrs in a HT settup.

For the rears I want to try something with 2 drivers per box. I want something like those mission rear speakers that radiate in 2 directions.
Should I just double the volume and keep the same filter for each driver in the box?

sorry for drifting off topic....

Doubling the volume will work well. The box shape will be different so the filter will have a different effect besides, I think you can do without the filter for surrounds. You'll need to think about whether to wire series or parallel though.

what's the main difference between series en parallel?
only the impedance ? or also max spl?

Impedance is the main impact. You will be choosing between 4 ohm and 16 ohm nominal. There is a SPL change, usually +3db. Theroretically you'll experience higher amp output wired in parallel but you may also experience higher distortion. My recommendation is to wire them in series and sacrifice a little efficiency for a more stable load to the amp. I used three drivers for mine and wired 2 in series then in parallel to the 3rd for a 12 ohm nominal. Seems to work well.

I'm still wondering about these dimensions.

If you take the nominal values (8Ohms) youŽd get 16Ohms in parallel with 8Ohms which would be (16*8)//(16+8)=5,33Ohms.
You probably meant 2 in parallel, then in series with the third?

Of course I did. I'm "sleep-typing".
I see I got it backwards in my previous post too. Thanks for catching that.

that would present different amounts of power to the drivers...if that matters to you
