Default Midrange -decistions -decisions...

I have decided on a Tweeter the SS ring radiator , and I have decided to use two Eton 8/800 for woofers, so all I am left with is a mid. I have allready heard the Audax options, and I think I will want a little more resolution. I am considering the Scan-Speak 15M/4531K00, the Accuton C89-T6, or the Seas 15M Poly midrange. Any input??? I haven' had a chance to hear any of these first hand and that's what's making this so hard. If the Seas sounds anyting like the the 15W magnesium units then I definitely don't want it. No offense to anyone who has used these but the magnesium unit's just arn't my taste at all, I had no sense of palpability or realism from them. I am also no sure about the accuton as al the local Avalon Acoustics dealers are also dealers for other comparable brands and choose to never set up any demo sytems with them. I'm not sure if that's a bad sign or if they are making more money on wilson????Thanks!!

You need to give us some more information, like desired XO and budget.

The ATC SM75-150 domes are well regarded, but a bit pricey.

New kid on the block is the WR125S from CSS.

I don't know what you heard, but the Seas W15 can be amazing in the right system.

YMMV.

Default midranges

I auditioned a pair of joseph audio pearls and despite the stratospheric price, I wasn't impressed. I much preferred the Thiel 7.2, the Von schweikert VR-4-11, and the wilsons.

What is your budget?
What are your priorities in sound qualities?

I've heard the poly Seas Excel mid has higher distortion than the magnesium equivalent. (due to the poly cone - lasks the stiffness of the metal cone, and of course can flex more easily).

The Accuton hasn't the motor assembly to match it's cone material/cost (ie: contemporary motor + modern cone, like that's a bad thing- maybe it is?)

And the the Scan-Speak was better than the Skaanning C-Quenze and almost as good (subjective as all this is) as the Seas Excel Magnesium cone mid for resolution, dynamics and "micro-detail".

some of those afore-mentioned comments are in another post (can't remember which - think I was searching for "testing drivers" when I read some of the comments).

LOTS of detail with dynamics
the csd is amazing (because of the mass)

If you want a great mid range unit and don't want to spend lots on one of these "exotic" drivers go for the msh-116/4 from monacor. Yes, monacor.
Allthough I used it ones in a three way studio monitor (the guy also had some Tannoys wich are no match to the ones I've build).
The msh-116/4 has also been tested in a german magazine with some other units (eton, focal , vifa). None of them could match the super linear frequency response wich has no breakup, even at the top end. This puppy is also very easy to xo. You won't be dissapointed!
