Default Help with finding good $40 7" mid-bass

Hello,

I'm planning on building a MTM TL using 7" mid-basses with Dynaudio D28/2 tweeters. I have the tweeters but haven't purchased the woofers yet. I was thinking of using one (I should say four) of these:

Peerless 832732 (Fs:34Hz, Qts:0.30, Vas:32.9l, Xmax:5.5mm, Sd:130cm^2) $33.50
Peerless 850122 (Fs:37Hz, Qts:0.44, Vas:27.7l, Xmax:5.5mm, Sd:143cm^2) $39.30

I'm looking for 7" woofers with an Fs of 30 ~ 35Hz (I know the 850122 is 37Hz) and I can't spend more than $40.00 per woofer.

Any recommendations would be of great help and I would seriously look into any suggested woofer.

Thanks in advance!

Eric

Default I don't use cookies!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes when i try to post I lose my posting due to the login situation, makes me mad.

Ok...
I think I would be better off uping the dollar amount to around $60 per woofer.

I'm interested in these:
Vifa XG18WHOO-08
Seas G18RNX/P .phf info available in the Seas vintage section, but Madisound still has them (at least for the moment). Seas has a replacement driver: G17REX/P.

Any comment on either of these? I plan to use them in a MTM TL.

Thanks!

You'll get the lowest extension from the Peerless 850122 , but before going any further you also need to consider the crossover point. Make sure that the driver you choose is no more than 6dB down at 30 degrees off axis at the crossover point for proper imaging.

Thanks Bill (I should send you a Christmas Card or somethin').

That would save me some money. If you don't mind my asking, what is your rational for the Peerless driver, experience with it or based on the T/S specs?

The two Peerless were my first choice, well 1st/2nd or 2nd/1st choice (if you get me).

I plan to cross the dyn around 2k give or take.

There is always the classic Vifa P17WJ-00 which is nice sounding, and an overall good performer. Also, there is loads of design using it...

Peerless HDS seems like a very nice choice.

Haven't used it, but there's always the PE Euro 7" @ $35:

Edit: Oops! I see the Fs is 40Hz. Otherwise looks like a nice driver.

Default PE RS180

You might wish to consider the PE RS180:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...number=295-364

It has an Fs of 38 Hz, so that's a bit higher than you'd like, but it has been getting a lot of positive attention. Price is $30.74 each for 4 or more.

I haven't used it, personally, but if you do searches here and on the Madisound board, you'll find out quite a bit about it.

Good luck.

A fellow Washingtonian recently used the Euro in a small PR cab and it produced a very satisfactory amount of bass. One of the best builds he has done to date. I believe he used a PE tweeter also but I don't remember the model, sorry.

On second thought, the Euro's .29 Qts is a bit low for a TL - I second the PE RS 7" as a good TL candidate. Looks cooler, too!

With the RS180, do keep in mind that it has a significant (to say the least) cone breakup due to its aluminum cone. But, if you can design a good crossover for it, it should be a good choice.
