Default Good woofer pairings for a manger msw

Hello-

I'm wondering what all everyone has tried as a bass unit or MB unit to match with the manger?

I have been bitten by the bug- and my first speakers are great but have a few flaws that I would like to address in round 2.

So: I'm thinking manger, X woofer, and a airdre tummult sub or two tummults in a 2 x 3-way setup. I have a DCX, whose functions may be replaced by a computer with a Lynx pci card (2I 6O) and the waves FIR linear phase EQ's (vst plugins) and a PC.

Anyway the SS 18W/8535 looks like a good choice, but one of my problems in my current system is I would like to push the XO point between my current audax aerogel and tc2+ a bit lower (currently at 100hz), but I can't without sacrificing too much headroom. If I move to the tummults I would probably like to go even a hair lower than with the TC2+'s and would then need somthing that could do that with ease.

So I would like to see somthing with a bit more power handleing/max spl. Also I plan to X the mangers over a bit higher. possibly as high as 500hz. I personally feel that all frequencies between 150hz and 10k are about equally critical. So I'm not really afraid to have that as my XO point. OTN a male bass (voice) can sing as low as a 50hz fundamental, well below the mangers range. And recorded close to the mic it will have pleny of 50hz in it.

So I'm curious what all of you have tried. Maybe a focal polyglass? or other paper cone options? I'm not to excited about metal cone woofers response in the 50-500 range but I'm interested in what people have tried. Also looking for about 200w powerhandleing, hi loss surround and 90dB 1w1m. Thanks,

Ryan

I know that the manger zero 107 was tested years ago in a german magazine, it has two 8" vifa units. I though the xo was something like 100 or 150 hz or in that range.

I'm not really looking to copy one of their designs. Has anyone checked out theMOREL MW-267 8" NEOLIN WOOFER or MOREL HU921 9" CAST FRAME WOOFER ??

I just saw them on parts express and it looks like they are new. there is no data on them though so I thought I would ask. Thanks,

Ryan

Those look like JBL's?? the ribs in the cone do at least, I've neveer seen any woofers with a shiny black dust cap before.

I can't imagine trying to make that egg shaped enclosure for the manger without a CNC machine. I bet they do sound great though. Thanks for the pic-

Ryan

One person on the Basslist used PPI Pro 8's and liked the combination. Yes, they're "car" woofers, but they're very serious drive-units regardless. They have a flat-piston sandwich diaphragm, and an underhung motor.

I do not know if they are still available.

There was a German guy living in Italy who built an active "three-way" system with an MSW, using a digital crossover. It was made transient-perfect !

Basically it was consisting of an MSW together with a subwoofer. In their crossover region there was a third driver added to act somehow like a filler driver.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the homepage anymore.

Regards

Which woofer did you end up with Ryan?
I'm also looking for a woofer to pair with Mangers (I've been bitten too ). I've considered the Morel HU9.1 as well as some Scan Speaks.

Tobias

They do look superb don't they. They're the 'Encore' from Overkill Audio who are a small UK company.

They also use the heavily modified 'audiophile' version of the DEQX for digital crossover duties and the whole thing apparently sounds utterly amazing according to 6moons and the few folks that have listened to them:

Something like this will be my next project sometime after I finish the Perceive 2's
